The Fort William Henry is a recreation of an authentic 18th century military fort.  Built on a small rise, Fort William Henry commanded the Southern end of Lake George from November 1755 until August of 1757.  The present day recreation houses a period museum, many relics, and diaramas, a gift shop, and offers guided tours by costumed guides.  Demonstrations include a grenade toss, musket firing, cannon firing, and musket ball making.  In addition to the great historical value of the tour, the view of the Southern end of Lake George is awesome (which is why the location was chosen for the fort in the first place).  A visit to the fort is great not only for the adults, but for the children as well.  You can't miss the fort, it is in Lake George village, and can be accessed from Canada Street through the hotel parking lot, or from Beach Road from the municipal lot (walk up the stairs).  You can get more information by calling them (518) 668-5471, or visiting them on the web.  There is a wealth of information on their website.  I strongly recomend the Fort William Henry, not only for the educational value, but also for the entertainment!
